About Us

OUR GOALS

The Boston Austrian Economics Group is a weekly meet-up in downtown Boston, where we study Austrian Economics. We know what you're thinking... no, it isn't the economics of the country of Austria. Austrian Economics is the oldest, continuous school of thought in economics; the founding members of which were all from Vienna.

HOW WE GOT STARTED

The Group was started sometime in December 2012 by our founder, Eric Bickford. His goal was to create a group focused on mutual learning of economics, rather than having one expert preach to the students. This way, we can capitalize on the different levels of expertise of each of our members.

WHAT WE'VE DONE SO FAR

So far, we have read Dr. Robert Murphy's Home Study Course in Austrian Economics, a 52-week lesson plan covering the basics in Austrian Economics, and Murray Rothbard's Man, Economy, and State with Power and Market.

WHAT'S NEXT?

At the moment, we are studying John Maynard Keynes's The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money and Henry Hazlitt's refutation of Keynes, The Failure of the New Economics.

UPCOMING READINGS

Our upcoming readings will be announced on the weekly meet-up page. At the moment, we are studying John Maynard Keynes's The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money and Henry Hazlitt's refutation The Failure of the New Economics. We also hold meetings that are not based on the main readings; we have previously held meetings based on episodes of "The Simpsons" and "South Park".

Please check the weekly meet-up page for the readings and the study questions. Actually doing the reading is not required; we guarantee that you'll have a good time regardless!
